Build Your Home With Wombat

You may wonder what Wombat is. Actually this is hard to tell and there is no simple answer. It depends on the point of view and/or on what Wombat is supposed to be.

Some might say Wombat is another CMS, some say it is another framework to create portal sites others are convienced that it is just a bunch of PHP-classes usable to develop web sites. Well, it is all of the above, but - that's the most importand: different.

Still, why should anyone build a one's home-sweet-homepage with Wombat?

Construction Site

Originally Wombat was developed to ease programmers' live. Hence Wombat's goal was to provide a working web site skeleton. A featured skeleton which is flexible to suite everybody's needs.

Of course, it is impossible to suit everybody's needs. Still, Wombat solved this problem in a diplomatic way: It simply does try to implement site spcific behaviour or applications. It also does not say anything about design or layout - this is just not Wombat's task.

Instead Wombat implements all those repeating (boring) tasks a web developer is confronted with every time she wants to create a new site. This would be the time mention buzz-words like XML processing, databses, design patterns etc. but there is no need to bother you with technical issues. The point is: a developer - using Wombat - can start programming site specific applications immidiatly. Furthermore, she can focus on the application itself - because the environment is already set up. It is a bit like building a house, but the construction site is already set up, you can use the most expensive cranes, bulldozers, excavators and stuff for no cost. You still need to build the house on your own - but with all those nice power tools, it turns out to be a peace of cake. Also there is noone telling you how to build your house! You might want round windows, a golf course on the rooftop, a wine-cellar in the basement and a swimming pool (with a big water slide) in the 1000 acre backyard. Or you might want to build a small cottage to shelter heavy rain...

To make a long story short, from the developer's point of view. Wombat is a powerful, rapid development framework which allowes you to implement web sites on a very high abstraction layer but gives you full controll at the same time.

Fuel Gauge

The Wombat framework does not only provide cranes and power tools. It also comes with a versatile measurement gauge. The Wombat Debugger is tape measure, rev counter, fuel gauge and flight recorder in one device.

The debugger shows the developer vital information during runtime. Of course, the debugger is very versatile and allows to display debug information of your own construction site. Also the debugger can be switched from developing to productivity quic snap. (In productivity-mode it hardly uses any system resource such as CPU time or memory.)
